ANALYSIS 68 (1) January 2008

Abstract
Contemporary discussions of causality range over the relative merits of nominalist as against realist accounts, of conceptual as against empirical approaches, and of regularity, power-based and singularist understandings. What is not much discussed, however, is whether cause is a univocal or analogical term. Her I identify eight varieties of causality and draw the conclusion that causality is distributed across diverse, but analogically related forms. Causality = ______cause, with there being many irreducibly different ways of filling the blank.
